All ready for the summer fete – we just need some good weather (well, what’s new?)

Saturday 7th July, 12 – 4 in the Community Garden.

First things first – Food and drink! Locals will be running a cafe, and we’ll have the Golden Ball’s beer tent, Bluebird Bakery and ice cream – but bring a picnic if you prefer!

We need cakes and other goodies, donated on the day for the cafe to sell. All proceeds will go towards community events such as the fete, solstice and equinox festivities, plants for the garden, prizes for kids and the like. So please get baking!!

If you have any patio tables and chairs for the cafe to use on the day, please send a comment through the blog to let us know. Thank you.

The competition this year is a PAINTED STONE – choose a nice stone (if you’re like me you pick them up from beaches and then forget where you got them from anyway), wait for a little inspiration, and paint your design. It might be a stone who’s shape reminds you of something else, or one to add your own design or scene to. Poster paint and kids water colours work well, or try pencils or even felt pens. (Tip – a quick squirt of hair spray can ‘fix’ colours to avoid smudging). Bring along your work of art on the day.

Mid afternoon, we’ll be having a traditional races, so get your running shoes on for the egg and spoon race, and get practicing your three legged! Before then, we’ve got storytelling under the tree, and we hope to have some parachute games for the young ones during the afternoon.

We’ve got music from no less than 3 musical duo’s, so your ears will be in for a treat. Plus of course the coconut shy and other games to frustrate you.

We’ll be running a ‘freecycle’ stall, so bring along your unwanted treasures, and take away someone elses. Books, clothes, DVD and CD’s, niks and naks, small furniture, toys and games are all welcome; there is a new home awaiting them just round the corner!

Last, but by no means least, the Local History Group will be sharing their findings about the area, so come along and discover Bishophill’s past.

We also hope the Golden Ball Co-operative Ltd will be there to talk to interested people about the plans for the buy-out of the pub’s lease.

We look forward to seeing you there for an afternoon of fun and frivolity for all!
